From your dashboard, you simply start by hitting \u2018New file,\u2019 and then selecting which service you want – Transcription, Subtitles <\/strong>or Foreign subtitles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Machine generated transcriptions take just a few minutes to produce – with an \u2018ETA\u2019 visible on your dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe we\u2019re nitpicking but it did seem to <\/em>take a little longer than some other tools. However this is a marginal thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once your transcript is complete, you\u2019re able to check it, edit it to correct any errors, and export it in your chosen format. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can apply various styles to edit the look and feel of subtitles. The options available are perhaps fewer than other tools – for example, you can\u2019t \u2018drag and drop\u2019 your subtitles to appear anywhere on screen, you can simply hit the \u2018Move up\u2019 or \u2018Move down\u2019 buttons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it\u2019s still relatively easy with options to edit font, colour and background, to create a subtitle look and feel that compliments your brand and video style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news for those on a budget is that Happy Scribe offers a generous \u2018free\u2019 plan for individuals with what they call \u2018occasional language needs.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This allows you to upload and transcribe up to 5 files per month, which can be exported in a variety of formats – including exporting un-watermarked videos, which we have to say, having tried a number of these tools, is really unusual and a great benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you work in a business or team that requires a higher volume or frequency of transcription\/subtitling, you\u2019ll want to upgrade to the reasonably priced Basic & Pro plan. This will set you back \u00a317 per user, per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For larger businesses, Happy Scribe offers a \u2018Custom\u2019 enterprise plan with a variety of other bells and whistles, and bespoke pricing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also important to note that these prices will cover you for machine-generated services – but if you want, or need, to use the human transcription services, you\u2019re looking at a fee of \u00a31.50 per minute<\/strong> for transcription, \u00a32<\/strong> per minute<\/strong> for subtitles, or \u00a38 per minute <\/strong>for translation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>Pros & Cons<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When evaluating a software tool like Happy Scribe, it’s important to consider both its strengths and weaknesses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s our take:<\/p>\n\n\n

\n Pros:<\/span>\n – Happy Scribe offers a generous free plan that allows you to transcribe up to five videos per month, making it an excellent choice for those on a tight budget.

– One of the biggest advantages of using Happy Scribe is that free videos can be exported without any watermarks, which is a rarity among transcription tools. If you\u2019re working on fewer than 5 videos per month, this really is the best free option out there.

– Happy Scribe is user-friendly, with a straightforward interface that makes it easy to use even for beginners.

– The UI of Happy Scribe is pleasant and visually appealing, providing a smooth user experience\n <\/div>\n
\n Cons:<\/span>\n – While Happy Scribe provides a decent selection of style options, it falls short of some of its competitors in terms of the range of styles available. (By this, we mean things like font style, positioning options, etc.)

– The auto-transcription time of Happy Scribe is marginally longer than some other transcription tools – which may be a factor to consider for those who need quick turnaround times, as in – immediate! It only takes a few minutes but it\u2019s definitely a little slower than other tools we\u2019ve tried.

– Some competing tools offer the option to \u2018resize\u2019 your video in-app and position subtitles optimally for each file format. E.g. You could upload a widescreen \u2018YouTube\u2019 video, add subtitles and edit the aspect ratio to square for upload to Instagram. That isn\u2019t possible here – it\u2019s exclusively a tool for adding subtitles.\n <\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n

<\/span>Ease of use<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Honestly, one of the most notable aspects of Happy Scribe is its user-friendly nature. The tool is designed to make the transcription process as easy and straightforward as possible, even for users who have no prior experience with transcription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firstly, the interface of Happy Scribe is intuitive and user-friendly. The tool provides a clear and simple layout, with all the necessary options and settings easily accessible. This makes it easy for users to get started with the transcription process, without being overwhelmed by complicated features or confusing menus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its user-friendly interface and range of tools make it an excellent choice for anyone who wants to streamline their transcription process and save time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>Accuracy<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Like any automated transcription service, Happy Scribe makes some mistakes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They certainly don\u2019t hide this – when you upload your file, you\u2019re given the option to choose between human made and machine generated subtitles, with a clear disclaimer that the latter option comes with \u201880% accuracy,\u2019 while the former offers 99%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our experience, 80% is really underselling it – our transcript was much more accurate than this. We uploaded a video around 4 and a half minutes long, and there were a couple of words here and there that the tool got wrong – and a few grammatical errors, such as rogue full-stops – but seriously, we\u2019re talking tiny errors that would be easily corrected with a quick proof read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lot of this might come down to the type of video\/audio being transcribed – our video was recorded to-camera, with a quality audio setup, which – by definition – would presumably make transcription errors less likely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If accuracy is super-important to you, or the quality of your audio is less than ideal, you can go with the human made subtitles – these will take around 24 hours to turn around and, as previously mentioned, they\u2019ll cost \u00a31.50 for a text transcript, \u00a32 for video subtitles, or \u00a38 for foreign language subtitles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>Selection of languages<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As of writing, Happy Scribe offers 62 languages for automatic transcription and translation – from Afrikaans all the way through to Zulu: you can check out the latest list here<\/a> but it\u2019s pretty extensive!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We rate Happy Scribe at 4.5 stars out of 5, marking it down only because of the less advanced style editing options, and the inability to export with different aspect ratios for different video platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, its ease of use, accuracy, and convenience make it an amazing option for anyone in need of transcription services, especially those who are new to transcription or need to transcribe files quickly and efficiently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
